Which day is your birthday?
- Janma Nakshatra birthday
The day in your birth’s solar month when the Moon is again in your birth star at sunrise. Many families in the South keep this day, often with an Ayushya Homa or a temple visit.
- Janma Tithi birthday
The day your birth tithi returns in the same lunar month. Many families keep this day instead. The My Shrine app works it out for you.
- Every month
Your birth star returns about every 27 days. Many families offer an archana on that day each month.
Never miss it
The My Shrine app shows your Janma Tithi and Janma Nakshatra days each year, reminds you before them, and wishes you on the day. It does the same for everyone in your family.
Questions people ask
Why is my Moon birthday on a different date each year?
The Hindu calendar follows the Moon and the Sun, not the Gregorian calendar, so the day your birth star or tithi returns moves by a few days to a few weeks each year.
What if I don’t know my birth time?
We use 12 noon. The tithi and the birth star can change during the day, so the result may differ by one star or tithi. Add the time when you know it.
Which place’s sunrise do you use?
The day is read at Bengaluru’s sunrise, as in the My Shrine app. Births are taken in Indian time (IST).
